30th Celebration: The Lugia Deck at a Glance
The anniversary set 30th Celebration brings a deck built around Lugia. It does 250 damage, but needs three different Energy types that land in the discard pile after every attack. The answer to that is Blaziken ex.
The card: Lugia 121/128

- Basic Pokémon, 120 HP, Colorless type
- Its attack costs one Fire, one Water and one Lightning Energy and does 250 damage. Afterwards you discard one Fire, one Water and one Lightning Energy from Lugia.
The engine: Blaziken ex

Blaziken ex (Journey Together 024/159, 320 HP) has an Ability: once per turn, you attach a Basic Energy card from your discard pile to one of your Pokémon. With three Blaziken ex in play, Lugia gets all three Energy back in a single turn. Blaziken ex also attacks on its own for 200 damage, after which it cannot attack during your next turn. The fastest way to get it into play is Rare Candy.
Draw, lock, search
- Dudunsparce (Prismatic Evolutions 080/131): its Ability draws 3 cards once per turn. Afterwards you shuffle Dudunsparce and all attached cards back into your deck.
- Budew (Ascended Heroes 016/217): its attack stops your opponent from playing Item cards during their next turn. A good start from the Active Spot.
- Crispin (Stellar Crown 133/142): searches for up to 2 Basic Energy of different types, one goes to your hand, the other straight onto a Pokémon.
- Abenteuerlaterne (Delta Reign 090/103, German name): takes one Basic Fire and one Basic Lightning Energy from your deck into your hand.
- Levincia, according to the source, recovers Lightning Energy from the discard pile.

The plan in three steps
You start with Budew Active and lock your opponent's Items. Meanwhile you bring Torchic, Combusken and Blaziken ex plus two Lugia into play and keep drawing with Dudunsparce. As soon as Lugia has Fire, Water and Lightning, it attacks for 250, and Blaziken ex reattaches the discarded Energy on the next turn.

Is the deck worth it?
250 damage from a Basic Pokémon with 120 HP is strong, the price is three Energy types and a slow setup through Blaziken ex. If you collect the anniversary set, Lugia gives you a playable card for the table, not just for the binder.
