China: Sought-After Gastly Card Returns as a Promo

In China, the Halloween events for the Pokémon Trading Card Game start on 26 October 2026. The main prize is a card many collectors know: Gastly 420/SV-P. It shows the same illustration as one of the most sought-after cards from Temporal Forces.

The promo shows a gang of Gastly, Haunter and Gengar making mischief at midnight while Meowth hides in a doorway. Exactly this artwork came out in March 2024 as an Illustration Rare in Temporal Forces.

The German Gastly 177/162 is one of the most sought-after cards of the set. According to PokeZentrum its market value is 50 to 100 euros.

How do you get the promo?

  • Period: 26 October to 25 November 2026, China only
  • Format: tournaments with 3 to 5 rounds, at least 8 participants
  • The winner of each event receives a Gastly promo.
  • Up to 4 cards are handed out per event, the rest by lottery.

What does this mean for collectors?

The promo is tied to tournaments in China and only available in small numbers per event. Outside China it will show up, if at all, only on the collector market. If you want the artwork, Gastly 177/162 from Temporal Forces is easier to find. Whether the promo moves the price of the Illustration Rare remains to be seen. More Chinese products are in Guides & News.
